The
Female Aesthetic
April 19 thru May 31
The female aesthetic is for some an elusive art form
with an ability to communicate strong primal messages.
If we believe that art is a primal form of
communication, the female aesthetic has impacted our
society since the beginning of time. The Female
Aesthetic exhibition will investigate this visual
phenomenon by illuminating the works of eleven female
artists who are all recognized professionals furthering
the aesthetic while exploring alternative forms of
communication in this rapid communication era. The
exhibition will focus on the female delivery process and
its unique visual language. The artists – Beryl Benbow,
Cecil Chong, Diane Davis, Linda Hiwot, Jemilah Jennings,
Charlotte Ka, Dindga McCannon, Gina Samson, Deborah
Singletary, Bettey Blayton Taylor and Ava Tomlinson -
through their own statements and accoutrements, unfurl
the mystique and exert that primal need to communicate.
Curated by Professor MLJ Johnson.
Harlem Timeline Permanent

Celebrating the living history of Harlem, the Harlem
Timeline captures the history of Harlem from 1625 to
the 21st century. It chronicles Harlem’s evolution and
highlights the significant events and figures in Harlem
over the past 100+ years. By weaving together the
stories of Malcolm X, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., and
Percy Sutton with hallmark events, such as Emperor Haile
Selassie of Ethiopia’s visit to Harlem, the Harlem
Timeline presents a historical and educational
experience for individuals of all ages.
